Practice & Assess
When All You Really Want Is A Worksheet

Practice and Assess: No-Prep Printables for the ELA Skills You Teach
Do you ever feel like you just need a worksheet for students to practice what they’re learning?
I know I did, but I didn’t have time to come up with 20 sentences to identify direct and indirect objects, or time to find short informational text passages so students can highlight the supporting details.
Sometimes you just need a worksheet for students to practice a skill and for you to check their learning. That’s why I created these Practice and Assess resources.
*These worksheets are not meant to teach the skill.*
They can be used as pretests, as practice and assesments after a lesson, for skill review, test prep, and to differentiate.
Comparing the Practice Worksheet and the Assessment Worksheet
Each skill has a practice worksheet and an assessment worksheet with answers keys for both. There are 20 questions on each one.
The content is similar, and the format is the same, so there’s no confusion or surprises for your students when they take the assessment. Because the practice and assessment worksheets look exactly alike, I labeled each worksheet so you can easily see what’s what.
The lesson number and topic are at the top left and the type of worksheet and grade level are on the bottom left.

Will These Skills Match My Curriculum?
I created these worksheets to match the lessons in my Interactive Notebooks. Still, all five subjects can absolutely be used with or without my interactive notebooks because they cover so many Common Core skills and concepts.
Here are the topics and skills for each subject.

Comparing Three Different Grade Levels
Each subject is available in three different grade level sets, except for Poetry, which has two sets.
I created different grade level sets because I taught multiple grade levels, I taught the same students for more than one year, and I needed to differentiate.
Each grade level has unique content, which means that the questions and passages (when applicable) are all completely different, and leveled, for each set. This makes it so easy to differentiate! I really do recommend using all 3 grade levels.
Below is a comparison of the same skill, four types of conflict, across all three grade levels sets.

What Other Teachers Are Saying
Amazing!!! I cannot say how easy these are to use and how much time it has saved trying to find things for students to practice these skills and demonstrate their understanding. The quality of the product is excellent.

This set of files has saved me many hours of time in differentiating for my ELL students. I highly recommend it! I've purchased at least 10 different products from this seller (Lovin'Lit) and I have always returned to use them year-after-year. If Erin offers it, she's my "go-to" source for middle school ELA!
- Bonita F.
This resource was a life saver for morning work in my 7th and 8th grade classrooms.

I am using these in conjunction with the accompanying interactive notebook. They are a great review and assessment tool.
- Karen H.
I pull these out regularly to supplement skill practices with my 6th graders.

This one saved my bacon when I was unexpectedly made a long term sub in an 8th grade English class (after being a high school librarian for multiple years). Grammar is not the easiest or most engaging thing to most students, and middle schoolers are even more checked out. But this made my life easy, and I got a lot less whining when I switched to this resource. I wish I'd found it sooner.
